Fazilka celebrates award for Dr Chopra

FAZILKA WON a civilian honour this Republic Day in the Padma Bhushan for neurologist of world fame, Dr Jagjit Singh Chopra, who hails from the district. Earlier, bureaucrat S.S. Bedi and Punjabi folk singer and actor Pushpa Hans had won the honour for Fazilka.
Dr Chopra, Founder Director and former principal, Government Medical College, Chandigarh, was born in Lahore and made his medical beginnings in Patiala, where he graduated in medicine.
He has served as Head of Department, Neurology, at the PGI, Chandigarh. Dr Chopra has to his credit 235 scientific papers referred in 48 chapters of books, has submitted 89 research projects, 54 monographs and presented papers at 145 global conferences on neurology .
He holds editorial responsibilities of at least ten international journals and has published books on Tropical Neurology A . professor emeritus at PGI and at the National Academy of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Dr Chopra was the first Indian neurologist to be honoured in the US.

फाजिल्का के डा. चोपड़ा को पद्म भूषण
फाजिल्का -फाजिल्का के प्रख्यात डाक्टर मोहन सिंह चोपड़ा के सुपुत्र डा. जगजीत सिंह चोपड़ा को भारत सरकार की तरफ से पद्म भूषण सम्मान से नवाजा गया है। उन्हे यह सम्मान मिलने पर इलाके में हर्ष की लहर है। शहर की सभी सामाजिक, राजनीतिक, धार्मिक संस्थाओं ने डा. चोपड़ा को यह सम्मान मिलने पर खुशी का इजहार किया है। उल्लेखनीय है कि डा. मोहन सिंह ने भी चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में काफी नाम कमाया है और अब उनके सुपुत्र ने पद्म विभूषण हासिल कर इलाके का नाम रोशन किया है। डा. चोपड़ा ने भी पीजीआई चंडीगढ़ में उल्लेखनीय सेवाएं दी है।

Fazilka feels proud of Jagjit Singh

Renowned neurologist Jagjit Singh Chopra, founder ex director-cum-principal of the Government Medical College, Chandigarh, who has been awarded for the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award on this Republic Day, has his roots in Fazilka.

Born in Lahore, Jagjit is son of Mohan Singh, an eminent qualified Medical Practitioner of Fazilka.

He did his early schooling from Primary School No-1 here. He graduated in medicine from Medical College, Patiala and completed his Ph.d from Chandigarh in 1967.

Jagjit served as head of the Neurology department of PGI Chandigarh. He was the founder director-cum-principal of Government Medical College, Chandigarh from 1991 to 1995. He submitted 235 scientific papers referred in 48 chapter of books. He also submitted 89 research projects, 54 monographs and presented papers in 145 global conferences on neurology.

In addition, Jagjit held the editorial responsibilities of 10 International Generals and published books on Tropical neurology.

He is emeritus professor of PGI Chandigarh and National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is deemed to be first Indian Neurologist honoured in United States.

Jagjit is the third prominent personality from Fazilka to get the Padma award.
