550th Parkash Purb: Rlys to put up details chart of 14 trains at major stations

Apart from highlighting details of special trains, the chart also gives info of 16 other passenger, mail and express trains

 As part of preparations for the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev at Sultanpur Lodhi, divisional railway authorities have prepared a chart displaying a list of 14 special trains and route maps. These charts will be put on display for passengers at all major railway stations of the division.

The design of the chart was approved by divisional railway manager (DRM) Rajesh Aggarwal on Monday evening during a meeting with other officials concerned.

Apart from highlighting the details of the 14 special trains, which have been announced by the railway ministry for the occasion, the chart also gives details on 16 other passenger, mail and express trains, which are running towards Sultanpur Lodhi.

A railway officer said that the chart was prepared to generate awareness among the passengers, who will be coming to Sultanpur Lodhi from across the country. "The design for the chart has been forwarded to the northern railway board," he added.

The chart also contains instructions on the ban on single-use plastic material at railway stations.

"We want passengers to maintain cleanliness at the station. Messages on the chart include 'single-use plastic banned in Indian Railways from October 2, 2019', 'say no to plastic' and 'motto of Indian Railways is 'reduce, reuse and recycle plastic'," said an officer from the Ferozepur division, pleading anonymity.

5% discount on booking ticket from UTS App

Railway officials said that passengers booking unreserved tickets can do so through the UTS mobile application of the Railways and avail 5% discount.

"Tickets from the UTS application can be booked only before entering the station premises. After downloading the application free of cost from the Play Store, there is a one-time registration. After logging in, one has to click on the 'book ticket' option and choose 'normal booking'. After filling in details, including origin station, destination, number of passengers, route and train type, passengers can obtain the ticket by paying online or through railway wallet," the instructions on the chart read.

The following is the list of 14 special trains to run during anniversary celebrations:

Hisar- Sultanpur Lodhi- Hisar Passenger train · (04601/4602): It will commence its journey on November 1 and will make a total of 28 trips in both directions till November 17.

Sri Ganganagar–Sultanpur Lodhi-Sri Ganganagar passenger train (04604/04603): It will run from November 2 to Novermber 15 and will make a total 28 of trips.

Fazilka–Sultanpur Lodhi–Fazilka passenger train (04606/04605): It will run from November 3 to November 16.

Nawashehar Doaba–Sultanpur Lodhi-Nawashehar Doaba passenger train (04608/04607): It will run from November 2 to November 16.

Derababa Nanak–Sultanpur Lodhi–Derababa Nanak passenger train (04610/04609): It will commence its journey from November 4 and will run till November 16.

Derababa Nanak–Sultanpur Lodhi–Derbababa Nanak passenger train (04614/04613): It will run from November November 1 to November 14.

Ferozepur– Darbhanga–Ferozepur Express train (04650/04649): The train will run from November 6 to 15. It comprises 20 coaches with 18 three-tier coaches and will halt at Lohian Khas, Sultanpur Lodhi, Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Dd Upadhyaya Junction, Buxar, Ara, Danapur, Patna, Bakhityarpur, Mokameh, Barauni and Samastipur stations.

Amritsar-Derababa Nanak–Amritsar DEMU train (04619/04620): It will run from November 1 to 15.

Amritsar-Derababa Nanak–Amritsar DEMU train (04621/04622): It will run from November 2 to 16.

Nangal Dam–Lohian Khas–Nangal Dam Express train (04617/04618): Will run from November 11 to 13. It will halt at Ludhiana, Phillaur and Nakodar stations.

Patiala–Lohian Khas–Patiala Express train (04615/04616): It will run from November 10 to 13 and halt at Ludhiana, Phillaur and Nakodar stations.

Delhi–Lohian Khas–Delhi Express train (04411/04412): It started its run from October 3 and will make last run on November 17. It halts at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Phillaur and Nakodar stations.

Ferozepur Cantt–Patna-Ferozepur Cantt Express train (04652/04651): It will run from November 5 to 16. It will halt at Lohian Khas, Sultanpur Lodhi, Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Dd Upadhyaya Junction, Buxar, Ara and Danapur stations.

“Welcome to the 20s”- Yuvraj Singh has a special wish for Shubman Gill on his birthday

Gill has grown leaps and bounds in his short career and is now set to lead the India 'A' in the unofficial Test series versus South Africa.

Indian cricket has quite a few talented cricketers in their ranks for the future, one of them is the very talented Shubman Gill. The right-handed batsman has been an absolute revelation over the last couple of years and his performances haven't gone unnoticed by any means. The youngster is well and truly in the scheme of things as far as selection in the national team is concerned.

Back in 2018, he became the Player of the Tournament in the U19 World Cup in New Zealand. The Young Turk was the second highest run-scorer of the series with a century versus Pakistan U19. Thereafter, he broke into the India A team along with Prithvi Shaw, his skipper in the U19 side. Then, the Fazilka-born weaved his magic in the previous edition of the Ranji Trophy.

During the tournament, he smacked his maiden double-century for Punjab against Tamil Nadu. January 2019 turned out to be a massive month in his career as he was called up for the tour of New Zealand. Shubman had to warm the benches for the first three matches and got his first chance when Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, rested himself from the last two One Dayers.

Shubman Gill going from strength to strength

Albeit he could only manage 16 runs in the two games, he was seen as one for the future. Back in 2018, he also got a deal for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). There, he shone for the team, batting higher up the order. Lately, he got a double ton in a four-day contest versus the West Indies, though he had a bit of struggle in the series versus South Africa A.

He is now set to lead the India 'A' team in the first match of the two-match unofficial Test series versus South Africa 'A' itself. Amidst his journey in cricket, Gill has turned 20 and on his birthday, wishes have poured in for the batter. Yuvraj Singh, who also played for Punjab in India's domestic circuit, wished him for the future and also welcomed him into the 20s.

Yuvraj, also a former Indian cricketer, took to Twitter and wrote, "Welcome to the 20s Mr. Gill long way to go. Wishing the future of Indian cricket a very happy bday @RealShubmanGill,"

Pillar of 118-yr-old protected monument collapses

A pillar and a portion of the roof of the main gate of 118-year-old protected monument Raghuvar Bhawan have collapsed.

One of the three main pillars and roof of the unattended building, which had acquired heritage status, collapsed all of a sudden last night. It was noticed by historian Lachhman Dost this morning. Dost spearheaded an agitation to get the monument a heritage status three years ago.
He said three rooms, a portion of the roof and stairs had already collapsed following "callous attitude" of the successive governments. "The remaining building is also in shambles and can collapse any moment," Dost added.
After prolonged agitation, the state government gave Raghuvar Bhawan a heritage status in 2016, but not even a single penny has been spent on the building located on the Freedom Fighter road. "The building requires immediate attention to save it from total ruin," said Dost.
Local philanthropist Seth Sunder Mal Bansal had got the building constructed in 1901 after the name of his only son Raghuvar, who died young. Sunder Mal and his family members died in 1940s and none came forward to take care of the building.

Fazilka’s AC smart govt school is children’s delight

FAZILKA: Residents of Chanan Wala, a remote border village of this district, were on cloud nine on Saturday as the once filthy government primary school there was inaugurated as the state's maiden air-conditioned smart school.

Headmaster Lovejeet Singh Grewal made extraordinary efforts to arrange ultra-modern facilities to this hitherto neglected school, with contributions by philanthropists of the region and government authorities.

All the classrooms in the school were not only made airconditioned but were also equipped with smart LEDs panels, besides a language lab in each of them.

The school now boasts of an e-library. It also has impressive greenery and hygienic toilets.

Also, the school has now introduced yoga and gatka classes, hobby classes with soft skill training.

Notably, the school was rated at the 69 rank among the 77 primary schools in the block.

The drastic improvement in the amenities has led to the doubling of the strength in the school in the new academic session.

Shabby infrastructure, broken toilets and low student strength was what Lovejeet Grewal inherited when he joined this school in the June last year.

He says, "I was inspired by Mr Krishan Kumar, secretary, education department, who had asked primary teachers of the state to take the challenge of transforming their schools."

Navdeep Asija, secretary of Graduate Welfare Association, Fazilka, said, "Lovejeet roped in our NGO. We arranged for ACs and LEDs through crowd funding."

The total cost of the renovation was around Rs 18 lakh, out of which 72% work was accomplished through MNREGA.

In an off-beat inaugural ceremony, Fazilka deputy commissioner (DC) Manpreet Singh honoured the mason, plumber and the electrician, who did voluntary service for the school. This was followed by a cultural programme and a dinner with parents of the students.

Punjab border dists on high alert, no evacuation

Punjab's border districts are on high alert in the wake of the Air Force strikes in Pakistan. No evacuation orders have been given yet, but residents have been asked to remain vigilant.

Police commandos have been stationed outside vital installations. Security in the vicinity of the Halwara Air Force station has been strengthened. Sukhdev Singh of Halwara village said they were woken up by the deafening sound of fighter planes at 2.45 am. Commandos have also been deployed near the Bhisiana air base in Bathinda, Guru Gobind Singh refinery, the NFL and oil depots.

An uneasy calm prevails at the Pathankot Air Force station, located 40 km from the International Border. The base acts as the first line of defense. In the 1971 war, its runway was badly damaged. The 1999 Kargil war was virtually commandeered from here.

The Mamun ammunition dump, considered the biggest in Asia, is being closely guarded too. Security has also been tightened in Bamial village, a stone's throw away from the border. Militants, who attacked the Dinanagar police station in  2015 and the Pathankot air base in 2016, are believed to have entered from Bamial.

The Army has begun movement in Dera Baba Nanak. Reports say the government schools at Haruwal and Shahpur Goraya villages have been converted into base camps. A godown on the outskirts has also been taken over. Leave applications of all government officials in the border belt have been put on hold.  

Several check-posts have been set up on the Gurdaspur-Pathankot stretch of the highway. Residents of border villages in Fazilka have started shifting to safer places. Security personnel have begun holding meetings with locals, asking them to keep an eye on anti-social elements and strangers. Sirsa in Haryana too is on high alert. — TNS
