BSF dons a new role at Fazilka-Jalalabad

The Border Security Force have donned a new role — that of a guide. BSF personnel can now be seen telling farmers how to recharge ground water level or increase crop yield and not to burn their fields after harvesting, and even spreading words of wisdom to school children and what all is required to join the force.

The BSF, in fact, has much more in their in to do list and will soon begin training programme for youths. Though classes are being held in tents at present, a five acre land between Jalalabad and Fazilka been projected.

DIG BSF Vimal Satyarthi said, "This border district has a high crime rate. The youths do drugs, are involved in smuggling and other immoral activities. To give them a meaning in life and change their focus, we have decided to start this project which can give them a direction."

"We will seek help from the district administration. But in the time being, we have begun classes in the tents," he said.

The BSF will hire resource persons from medical and engineering colleges, and agriculture department apart from their engaging their own officers.

The DIG said, "At recruitment rallies youth are disqualified on minor grounds, which they are not aware of. So once they get to know about them, they will prepare themselves better."

Trees make way for building at Fazilka BDPO

The felling of trees to construct a building at the Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO) in Fazilka is being opposed by local residents, led by the Graduates Welfare Association of Fazilka (GWAF).

The association, which has played a key role in the development of this neglected township over the last few years, has approached the district commissioner of Ferozepur to stop the construction, but claim to have got no relief.

The plea taken by GWAF is that instead of raising a large concrete structure by spoiling the lawns and axing trees at the office, "environment-friendly" construction should be undertaken and give the place a traditional and natural look.

The funds for the project, which aims to market products by rural artisans, have been granted by the Rural Development Ministry. GWAF has urged the DC and other officials that kiosks on the pattern of Dilli Haat be constructed.

Talking to The Indian Express, GWAF Secretary Navdeep Asija said, "Senior Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia recently spoke at CII, Chandigarh, about the state's plans to review the floor-area ratios, and to encourage vertical growth to avoid destruction of green areas. The construction activity at the BDPO office in Fazilka is against the stand taken by the government. Five full-grown trees have already been uprooted to construct the building, which will come up in place of the office lawns," he said.

Vikram Ahuja, a founder member of GWAF, added: "We appreciate the initiative to provide a market to local artisans, but this should not be done at the cost of the environment. Low-cost brick kiosks and thatched cottages made around the trees would have given the place the look of a traditional bazaar. Further landscaping would make the area a showpiece of Indian culture, attracting the local populace and tourists alike."

Ferozepur DC Kamal Kishore Yadav, however, said, "These buildings are being constructed across the country as a marketplace for rural artisans, as per the plan sanctioned by the government. The civil construction is being carried out as per the approved design. I will check if the trees are being axed according to government instructions." Fazilka is a tehsil in Ferozepur district.

Asija, meanwhile, pointed out that even if ten saplings are planted in place of the uprooted trees, they will take years to mature, and the survival rate is questionable too. "The government often talks of green buildings. Such talk is of little use if meaningful initiatives are not taken at the ground level," he reasoned.

The association has decided to take up the matter with Union Minister of Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh.

You don't need to do that anymore. Welcome to Fazilka, a small 162 year old town on the India-Pakistan border. Its unkempt, garbage-strewn congested streets with small, bustling shops are nothing out of the ordinary. But this town of about 68,000 people – and about 45,000 vehicles on its narrow lanes – has removed one source of congestion: cars. Yes, that sounds crazy and shocking but it's true.

Let's think about the problem of transport for a while. On one hand is the attraction of convenience. Who wouldn't want to travel in a luxury car driven by a chauffer who takes you wherever you want to go! Yes, traffic is increasing everyday, particularly in metropolitans, and it's takes forever to get from anywhere to anywhere but people seem okay with adjusting to that. On the other hand, walking on the pedestals is a nightmare and is not considered as a good option by anyone. Come summer and the scorching heat makes things worse. This has trapped our roads and us into a vicious circle of increasing pollution, congestion and traffic and seems to have no solution.

This is what people at Fazalika have done. They are placing special emphasis on traffic calming devices and installing permanent barriers in a few locations. Recognizing that people need to be on the move and get somewhere fast, a popular dial-a-rickshaw service was also initiated. The rickshaws, called "Ecocabs", were introduced as a new form of public transportation using intelligent transport tools, arriving at residents doorsteps following a phone call. The city has been divided into five zones and each has a different phone number.

"We didn't want the rickshaws to be considered a poor man's transport, therefore the name Ecocabs," explains Navneet Asija, a Delhi graduate. Strange, how semantics can make a huge difference. Initially, the scheme got a lukewarm response, but picked up when residents understood the utility. It's not just residents, even the rickshaw-pullers have benefited from fixed rates, which means their earnings have gone up. This is all helping make the city centre more sustainable, pedestrian and cycle friendly.

The successful projects making the city centre carfree have been beneficial in many ways, not simply by decongesting the market. With the carfree zone and the Ecocab initiative, Fazilka is perhaps the only Indian town with such simple yet effective schemes. And it is clear that with public transportation alternatives such as these, along with the introduction of carfree spaces, communities benefit from feeling safer and healthier, when free from cars. Fazilka can proudly show a new way to the rest of the country.

GWAF launches save birds project-Protecting man’s feathered friends

The Graduates Welfare Association Fazilka (GWAF), a voluntary organisation of this border town, has launched 'Save Birds' project. Under this project, the members of GWAF would motivate the residents to make water arrangements for the birds.


"Every year lakhs of birds die due to unavailability of water during the summers and it has been affecting the biodiversity adversely. Hence, the GWAF has taken up the task to save birds by providing them with water constantly during the summer season," said Navdeep Asija, secretary (Administration), GWAF.


"In due course of time, Fazilka's urban green belt has been reduced to less than 0.2% and no major afforestation plan is being implemented by the local authorities. It has become a major reason for the birds going away from this area as they have lost their nesting places," added Asija.


"We would distribute pamphlets to make out mission popular and acceptable among a large section of populace of this town and its neighbouring rural areas. About 25 members of the GWAF have already started this exercise," Asija added.


"I hope that our efforts would bring desirable results and would save number of birds from falling prey to scorching sun during summers with the availability of water in nook and corner of the town," he claimed.

Fazilka : Ferozepur farmers learn to check pollution caused by burning paddy

Sarpanches and panches in four districts of Ferozepur district are part of a new pilot project launched by the district administration. They are being trained in a technology that deals with pollution caused by burning of paddy straw— by sowing wheat in standing paddy stubble.

Farmers who have been part of this programme are increasingly realising that by not burning the paddy straw in their fields, they will also save on huge amounts of water. This is because the fields, left parched after days of burning, have to be watered for hours to make the soil ready for wheat.

Even as wheat sowing takes place in the second half of October and November, Ferozepur DC Kamal Kishore Yadav said it was essential to educate farmers about the benefits of not burning straw. "For one, this is a zero-tillage option, which saves farmers days of work. In addition, it retains the fertility and the rich bio-mass of the soil, which is lost by burning," he highlighted. "This is also a major step towards water conservation," Yadav added. With an alarming fall in the water table, conserving water is a major issue for the state.

Of the 10 blocks of Ferozepur district, the pilot project has been started in four— Fazilka, Jalalabad, Guruharsahai and Mamdot. "The response is highly encouraging. We now plan to educate farmers in other blocks too," he pointed out.

The district administration is also arranging field trips for farmers where wheat was sown in paddy straw late last year. "As farmers are aware of the pollution caused by burning of rice stubble, many of them are ready to explore this new option," said District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) Baljeet Singh.

The farmers are being educated by Zamindara Farmsolutions, a blended value business, along with a team of the Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA), funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dr H S Sidhu, Project Coordinator of CSISA Punjab, said their team, comprising agronomists, soil scientists and agricultural engineers, talked to farmers about the benefits of sowing wheat in paddy residue. "We have developed farms in various parts of Punjab. We will take batches of farmers to farms nearest to them to educate them. Our focus is to reduce the cost of production and save natural resources including water and soil," he pointed out.

Punjab has seven million acres of land under paddy cultivation.

One acre of paddy results in approximately 25 quintals of crop residue. The aggregate crop residue comes to approximately 175 mn quintals. Of this, over 90 per cent is burnt, which leads to massive pollution.

Fazilka - From paddy to fish: Punjab cultivates carps, looks at prawns

Shajarana village, located some 15 km from Fazilka, is slowly discovering the benefits of aquaculture.

Badly affected by soil salinity and waterlogging, agriculture here means a single crop in a year and that too only in soil having low salt deposits.

This isn't typical to this village alone. Estimates show that India has about 7 million hectares of saline affected soils in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of North Western India covering the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab.

With even farmers with huge holdings — at times a single farmer in Punjab alone owns 70 acres of land — having to do odd jobs for survival, Punjab Farmers' Commission had to think of an alternate venture. It decided to foray into aquaculture and roped in Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, for the same.

Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Dr V K Taneja says, "We are providing the technical knowhow to the farmers. We are currently in the trial stage, commercial experiments will start soon."

To begin with, the university has helped build four ponds of one acre each. "The experiment began more on the lines of water management, for here we had areas where agriculture was not possible. The salt deposit in some areas was so high that the soil had turned white," adds Dr Taneja.

Dr Asha Dhawan, who heads the project titled Utilisation of Inland Saline Waters of South Western Punjab for Aquaculture, says, "The project began last year and our first hurdle was that the seeds of fishes that breed in saline water are hard to come by. Here, seeds for only carps are found."

The first step, therefore, was to reduce the salinity of water to make it suitable for carps.

"Water salinity in many places was as high as 45ppt (parts per thousand). Our researches showed that we had to maintain it at 10ppt for breeding fish. Thankfully, canal water is abundant here and the water table too is just below the ground. The problem of salinity was thus solved by adding canal water to ground water. That done, carps were introduced as they could tolerate this level of salinity," adds Dr Dhawan.

Hereafter began a promising journey, as Dr Dhawan puts it, "Our harvest has been good. We have even had carps weighing about 1.5 kg. Motivated, we have now introduced prawns as they too can tolerate water with high salinity. I am sure we will be able to cultivate them."

There are more plans in line. Dr Kamaldeep Kaur, Dean, College of Fisheries, says, "Our next challenge is to breed those species of fish that can grow in saline waters. Entrepreneurs in southwestern Punjab have expressed keen interest in making fish products that can be sold outside the state."

Talking about economics, Dr Taneja says, "The input cost of an acre of pond is around Rs 30,000. It easily earns a farmer something between Rs 60,000 and Rs 1 lakh. And mind you, this money is from a land that wasn't fetching even a penny earlier."

Punjab has 1.25 lakh hectares of land, which is both waterlogged and saline. This land is, therefore, unfit for agriculture

A majority of this land falls in the southwestern districts of Muktsara, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda and Mansa. Underground water in this area is not fit for irrigation and thus farmers here use canal water. With lack of use of underground water, waterlogging in these areas has increased leading to soil deterioration to such a level that has left soil beyond reclamation.

Homing in on farmhouses to boost rural tourism

Encouraged by the success of rural tourism in other parts of the country, Punjab has decided to rejuvenate its initiatives in this field and promote its plush farmhouses as a destination for tourists tired of city life. The Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mahindra Homestays to professionally train owners of the farmhouses identified by it. The training will be on how to bring their premises on par with the expectations of tourists. These 23 farmhouses had been approved by the board last year as part of its efforts to promote farm tourism.

The company boasts of a partnership with nearly 140 homestays — its 'boutique hotels' — across the country. It has now joined hands with the owners of four farmhouses in Punjab and will provide them marketing support to ensure better business. A homestay is an accommodation provided in a private residence for tourists and is run by the house owner.

Razit Bhandari, Manager (Marketing) of the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board, said the board approached Mahindra Homestays to seek help in marketing the farmhouses in a better manner. "We want to promote farm tourism in Punjab. The state's rural appeal is a major selling point among domestic and international tourists, and we wanted the support of a professional concern in helping us seek our objective," he said.

The four farmhouses taken on board by the company are Citrus County near Hoshiarpur, The Retreat near Ropar, Mann Farm House near Fatehgarh Sahib and Jyani Natural Farm near Fazilka. Talking to The Indian Express, Vimla Dorairaju of Mahindra Homestays said: "We had conducted an extensive study in the UK and India about the kind of places that people would like to visit as tourists. In both countries, we found that people had a distinct preference for rural or plantation homes."

Kanwaljit Singh Brar, owner of The Retreat, said he was hoping the tie-up with Mahindra Homestays would give them better business. "We are looking for overseas business, as homestays are very popular in Europe and America."

Vinod Jyani of Jyani Natural Farm and Nartesh Kaur Mann of Mann Farm House, too, agreed that the tie-up would give their properties more exposure.

"Nano" Launched in Fazilka

आ गई फाजिल्का में नैनो रिक्शाण में पहले से ही अहम योगदान डाल रहे फाजिल्का ने अन्य शहरों से एक आगे बढ़ाते हुए यहां नैनो रिक्शा को लांच किया है, जिससे लोगों में रिक्शा में सफर करने की ललक अपने आप बढ़ जाएगी। बीती देर रात दि फाजिल्का हेरीटेज फेस्टीवल में नैनो रिक्शा लांच कर फाजिल्का राज्य का पहला शहर बन गया है जहां पर यह रिक्शा जांच की गई है। मजेदार बात यह है कि इसे फाजिल्का की ही मूल निवासी एक लड़की ने डिजाइन किया है। उक्त रिक्शा में आप मजे से बैठकर अखबार और रसाला भी पढ़ सकेंगे। अगर आप को पानी की प्यास लगेगी तो रिक्शा पर ही आप की प्यास बुझाई जाएगी। आपको धूप और बारिश की भी चिंता नहीं होगी। धूप और बारिश से बचने के लिए सवारी और चालक के सिर पर छत्त भी होगी। रिक्शा का डिजाइन स्कूल ऑफ प्लानिंग एंड आर्कीटेक्चर दिल्ली की शाखा इंडस्ट्रीय डिजाइनिंग में एमटैक की डिग्री कर रही छात्रा कीर्ती दीक्षित की ओर से तैयार किया गया है। जिसने छह माह की ट्रेनिंग दौरान इस मॉडल को आईआईटी रुड़की के रिटायर्ड प्रोफैसर डाक्टर भूपिन्द्र सिंह और इंजीनियर नवदीप असीजा के सहयोग से तैयार किया गया है।

टाटा कंपनी की नैनों कार से प्रभावित होकर फाजिल्का नैनों रिक्शा तैयार की गई है। पहले वाली रिक्शा का वजन करीब 85 किलोग्राम है, जबकि फाजिल्का नैनों रिक्शा का वजन मात्र 55 किलोग्राम ही है। इंजीनियर नवदीप असीजा ने बताया कि लकड़ी वाली मेरठ बॉडी की जगह लोहे की पाइपों का प्रयोग किया गया है। लकड़ी की जगह पाइपें लगाई गई हैं। इससे रिक्शा की साफ सफाई भी सही ढ़ंग से की जा सकती है। असीजा ने बताया कि इसे लो-फ्लोर बनाया गया है। इससे बुजुर्गों व बीमार व्यक्तियों को रिक्शा पर चढऩे में आसानी होगी। यह एक फीट ऊंचा होगा, जबकि दूसरे रिक्शा करीब डेढ़ फीट ऊंचे हैं। सवारी को अपना सामान रखने के लिए लगेज स्पेस बनाया गया है। इसे ऊपर-नीचे किया जा सकता है। इंजीनियर असीजा ने बताया कि भले ही फाजिल्का नैनों रिक्शा को तेज गति या ऊंच नीच सड़को पर दौड़ाया जाए, मगर दुर्घटना का डर नहीं होगा। रिक्शा के पीछे रिफ्लैक्टर लगाए गए हैं। जब रिक्शा रुकेगी या उस की गति कम होगी तो रिफ्लैक्टरों से पीछे आ रहे वाहन चालक को खुद ही इशारा मिल जाएगा। असीजा के मुताबिक फाजिल्का के रिक्शा चालक गरीब हैं और वह ज्यादा मंहगा रिक्शा खरीद नहीं कर सकते, मगर अब हर रिक्शा चालक को रिक्शा मिलेगी। 

उन्होंने बताया कि दिल्ली एक बैंक से माइक्रो फायनेंस की बात जारी है। उसके बाद रिक्शा चालकों को रिक्शा फायनेंस पर दी जाएगी। उसके बाद फाजिल्का नैनों रिक्शा शहर की सड़कों पर दौड़ती नजर आएगी।

Fazilka Heritage Festival Day-3 : सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमों से सराबोर हुए दर्शक

गे्र्रजूएट्स वेलफेयर एसोसिएशन की ओर से प्रताप बाग में आयोजित चार दिवसीय दि फाजिल्का हेरीटेज फेस्टीवल के दौरान शनिवार की रात को वुमन नाइट का आयोजन किया। इस मौके विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में राम रोशन करने वाली महिलाओं को सम्मानित किया गया। 

कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत डीसी डीएवी सीनियर सेकेंडरी स्कूल की पिं्रसिपल मंजुला सहगल, नगर परिषद उपाध्यक्षा कमलेश चुघ, होली होर्ट रेनबो डे बोर्डिंग पब्लिक स्कूल की पिं्रसिपल रितू भूसरी, शशि आहुजा, सुनीता बठला, संदीप कौर वैरड़, मैडम प्रीतम कौर व लीला असीजा ने संयुक्त रूप से दीप प्रज्जवलित कर की।

कार्यक्रम में महिलाओं के विकास पर गहन चर्चा की गई। इस अवसर पर सभी ने एक सुर में कहा कि महिलाओं के शिक्षित एवं आत्मनिर्भर होने से ही समाज विकसित हो सकता है। जब तक महिलाओं को समाज में पुरुषों के बराबर दर्जा नहीं दिया जाता तब तक समाज विकसित नहीं हो सकता। गणतंत्र दिवस समारोह दिल्ली की परैड में भाग लेकर फाजिल्का का नाम रोशन करने वाली नवदीप कौर जस्सी को विशेष सम्मान से नवाजा गया। नवदीप कौर ने कहा कि महिलाओं को अपना नजरिया बदलना होगा। 

उन्हें आज के समय के अनुसार खुद को ढ़ालना होगा। उन्होंने भ्रूण हत्या व दहेज प्रथा पर चिन्ता व्यक्त करते कहा कि इन्हीं प्रथाओं व बुराइयों ने देश में महिलाओं की स्थिति को कमजोर कर दिया है। फिर भी शिक्षा के प्रसार से अब महिलाएं पुरुषों के बर्बार चलने लगीं हैं। कार्यक्रम के दौरान सांस्कृतिक व देश भक्ति पूर्ण कोरियोग्राफी व नाटक पुरस्तुत किए। आर्मी स्कूल के विद्यार्थियों ने चक्क दे इंडिया गीत पर कोरियोग्राफी पेश की। होली होर्ट डे बोर्डिंग पब्लिक स्कूल के विद्यार्थियों ने भंगड़ा पेश किया। समारोह में पानी बचाने, अधिक से अधिक पौधरोपण करने आदि के बारे में भी जागरूक किया गया। इस अवसर पर एसेसिऐशन के अध्यक्ष उमेश कुक्कड़, सचिव नवदीप असीजा, मैडम प्रीतम कौर, डा रजनीश कामरा, नीतिन सेतिया, विरासत भवन के प्रभारी पंमी सिंह और विनय अग्रवाल आदि मौजूद थे।

ग्रेजूएट्स वैलफेयर एसोसिऐशन की ओर से पंजाब हेरिटेज एंड टूरिज्म प्रोमोशन बोर्ड के सहयोग से फाजिल्का हेरिटेज फेस्टीवल-2010 का आगाज वीरवार रात हमारे आदर्श बुजुर्ग से किया गया है। इसकी शुरुआत मुख्य मेहमान नगर कौंसिल के अध्यक्ष अनिल कुमार सेठी ने दीप प्रज्जवलित करके किया। बीते साठ वर्ष से साइकिल पर अखबार बेच रहे बुजुर्ग जट्टू राम को लाइफ टाइम आचीवमेंट आवार्ड से नवाजा गया। 1933 में पाकिस्तान में पैदा हुए जट्टू राम ने पटवारी की नौकरी ठुकरा कर फाजिल्का के लोगों तक अखबार पहुंचाने को प्राथमिकता दी। इस दौरान इन्होंने वातावरण को शुद्ध बनाने में भी जीवन भर कार्य किया। साइकिल चलाकर इन्होंने 37 हजार लीटर पैट्रोल बचाकर वातावरण को शुद्ध बनाया है। इसके दौरान क्षेत्र के विकास और समाजसेवा में अहम योगदान देने वाले पांच बुजुर्ग इन्द्रजीत सिंह सिद्धू, प्रोफैसर रणजीत सिंह, टेक चंद धूडिय़ा, सुरिन्द्र आहुजा और किशोर चंद भठेजा को सम्मानित किया गया। इसके बाद संगीतकार मनजिंद्र तनेजा ने धार्मिक गीत पेश किया और दोस्त मॉडल मिडल स्कूल की ओर से लब पे आती है दुआ गीत पर कोरियोग्राफी पेश की गई। उसे दर्शकों ने खूब सराहा। फेस्टीवेल में हैंडीक्राफ्ट, कर्म- कौशल के अलावा अनेक कारीगरों द्वारा तैयार अद्भुत कलाकृतियों को सजाया गया। इसके अलावा फूड जोन, आर्ट गैलरी, सांस्कृतिक एवं यूथ जोन बनाया गया। इसमें फाजिल्का की जीवनशैली, उसके सांस्कृतिक पहलुओं तथा यहां की बनी चीजों को दिखाया गया। फैस्टीवेल में जस्सल बद्रर्स की ओर से भंगड़ा, गायक हैप्पी डीलाइट द्वारा धीआं, कवि सरूप सिंह ने कविता के माध्यम से गरीब महिलाओं के कार्य के बारे में बताया गया। इस मौके पर सेठी ने संस्था के कार्य की सराहना की। एसोसिऐशन के सरंक्षक डा भूपिन्द्र सिंह और इंजीनियर नवदीप असीजा पे बताया कि चार दिनों तक चलने वाले इस फेस्टिवल में फाजिल्का के इतिहास, संस्कृति एवं भविष्य पर खास कार्यक्रम दिखाए गए। उन्होंने बताया कि फैस्टीवल का दूसरा दिन महहिलाओं को सम्मानित किया जाएगा, जिन्होंने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में फाजिल्का का नाम रोशन किया है। 03 अप्रैल को यूथ फाजिल्का नाइट होगी, जो यूवाओं को समर्पित होगा। इसमें यूथ में किस तरह से बदलाव आ रहा है, उनकी जरूरतें हैं और उनके भविष्य के बारे में चर्चा की जाएगी। इसके अलावा किसानों को कृषि क्षेत्र की आधुनिक जानकारियां दी जाएंगी और ग्रामीण क्षेत्र से सबंधित कार्यक्रम पेश किया जाएगा।

इस दौरान फाजिल्का के ऐतिहासिक घंटाघर को विशेषरूप से सजाया गया। इस फेस्टिवल का उद्देश्य फाजिल्का के कल्चर को एक पहचान देना तथा यहां के उन लोगों को प्रोत्साहित करना है, जो विभिन्न क्षेत्र में आगे बढ़ सकते हैं। इस मौके पर पाषर्द डा. रमेश वर्मा, पार्षद रविन्द्र भठेजा, डा. रजनीश कामरा, आदि मौजूद थे।

दिखेगा फाजिल्का की कला-संस्कृति का रंग

ग्रेजूएट्स वैलफेयर एसोसिऐशन द्वारा पंजाब हेरिटेज एंड टूरिजम प्रोमोशन बोर्ड के सहयोग से फाजिल्का की विरासत को समॢपत फाजिल्का हैरिटेज फैस्टीवैल-2010 का आयोजन 1 अप्रैल से प्रताप बाग में किया जाएगा। फैस्टीवेल में हैडीक्राफ्ट, कर्म-कौशल के अलावा अनेक कारीगरों द्वारा तैयार अद्दभुत कलाकृतियों को सजाया जाएगा। चार दिवसीय इस फैस्टीवेल को चार हिस्सों फाजिल्का के बुजुर्ग-हमारे आदर्श, यूथ फाजिल्का, वुमन ऑफ फाजिल्का और जय जवान-जय किसान में बांटा गया है।

ग्रेजूएट्स वेलफेयर एसोसिऐशन के सचिव इंजी. नवदीप असीजा ने बताया कि 1 अप्रैल को फैस्टीवैल का आगाज किया जाएगा। फैस्टीवल के पहली रात आदर्श-फाजिल्का बुजुर्ग नाइट बुजुर्गों को समर्पित होगी, जो पूर्व समय में फाजिल्का को अमूल्य योगदान दे चुके हैं। दो अप्रैल को जय जवान-जय किसान नाइट होगी। इसमें शहीद हुए सैनिकों को श्रद्धांजलि दी जाएगी तथा वर्तमान सैनिकों को सैल्यूट किया जाएगा व किसानों को कृषि क्षेत्र की आधुनिक जानकारियां दी जाएंगी और ग्रामीण क्षेत्र से सबंधित कार्यक्रम पेश किया जाएगा।

तीन अप्रैल को वुमन ऑफ फाजिल्का नाइट में उन महिलाओं को सम्मानित किया जाएगा। चार अप्रैल को यूथ फाजिल्का नाइट होगी, जो यूवाओं को समर्पित होगा। इसमें यूथ में किस तरह से बदलाव आ रहा है, उनकी क्या जरूरतें हैं और उनके भविष्य के बारे में चर्चा की जाएगी। फैस्टीवेल दौरान शिक्षा पर गोष्ठी कराई जाएगी। ईको कैब-डायल-ए-रिक्शा, कार फ्री जोन, सांझा चुल्हा, फाजिल्का नालेज सिटी केम्पेन, आनंद उत्सव आदि प्रोजैक्टस भी इसी एसोसिएशन की देन है।

Arniwala police station attached to Fazilka

Sukhbir Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, today ordered the attachment of Arniwala police station with Fazilka sub-division and thus gave a partial relief to its residents, who have been protesting for the past many days against reduction of its territorial jurisdiction during the reorganisations of police stations.

Badal directed a senior functionary of the Punjab police to complete the process of attaching Arniwala police station, now attached with Jalalabad sub-division, with Fazilka sub-division immediately.

Shushil Gumber, president, Bar Association, said that though a few villages, which were detached from Fazilka sub-division were still with Abohar sub-division, the decision in connection with the fact that whether agitation, which was going on so far against it, must be continued or not, would be taken by the representatives of various organisations, who had formed a common platform to fight against the injustice done to Fazilka.

ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के खतरे से तो आप सभी वाकिफ ही है. इस बार भी गमियां आ गयी है, परा 37 डिग्री के पर पहुँच गया है ऊपर से लगने वाले यह बिजली के कट. जहाँ एक आम आदमी का जीना मुश्किल हो चूका है, जरा सोचिये इस मासूम पंछियों के बारे में. एक अनुमान के मुताबिक हर साल लाखो पंची गर्मी के इस धुप में छाया और पानी के आभाव में मर जाते है. और अगर आप भी अपने अस पास देखे तो पता चलेगा के एक अरसा हे हो गया सुबह चिड़ियों के चेह्चाहने के आवाज़ सुने. न तो फाजिल्का में छायादार पेड़ बचे है और न हे कोई पानी पीने के जगह. फाजिल्का के मोर तो हमने पहले हे खो दियें है, अभी देर नहीं हुई है, आईये इन गर्मियों में इन पंछियों को थोड़ी राहत दे. यह भी हमारे फाजिल्का परिवार का हिस्सा है.  

अपने घर के बहार, आंगन में, छत पर या बालकोनी में एक खुला बर्तन इन पंछियों के पानी पीने के लिए रखे. आब जब बाज़ार में इन्वेर्टर या जनरेटर के लिए डीजल लेने जाये तो एक बर्तन अपने मेहमानों के लिए भी साथ ले कर आये. आईई सब मिल के इस गर्मियों में अपने घर में आने वाले इन मासूम मेहमानों का स्वागत करे....

यूनिकोड ने हल की कंप्यूटर फोंट्स की समस्या

फाजिल्का-आज का युग कंप्यूटर व इटरनेट का युग है। यह दोनों चीजें हर किसी के जीवन में अपना स्थान बना चुकी है। ऐसे में मीडिया से जुड़े लोगों के लिए तो यह अभिन्न अंग बन चुकी है। लेकिन उन्हे कंप्यूटर साफ्टवेयर व फोंट्स की भिन्नता के कारण काफी परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ता है। इन्हीं परेशानियों का समाधान बताने के लिए मूल रूप से फाजिल्का निवासी और पंजाबी यूनिवर्सिटी पटियाला के कम्प्यूटर खोज विभाग के प्रो. सीपी कंबोज ने यूनिवर्सिटी द्वारा पंजाब भर में शुरू किए जा रहे विशेष सेमिनारों की शुरूआत अपनी गृह नगर से की।

फाजिल्का में ग्रेजुएट वेलफेयर एसोसिएशन के सहयोग से करवाए सेमिनार में प्रो. कंबोज ने मीडिया से जुड़े लोगों को विभिन्न प्रकार के साफ्टवेयर समझने खासकर फोंट्स से संबंधित समस्याओं के हल बताए गए। प्रो. कंबोज ने बताया कि जब हम एक कंप्यूटर पर कुछ टाइप करते है, जब हम उसे दूसरे कंप्यूटर पर उस फाइल को पढ़ने के लिए खोलते है तो हम लिखे हुए शब्दों को सही ढग से नहीं पढ़ सकते, क्योंकि हमारे कम्प्यूटर में वो फोंटस नहीं होते जिन में हमारा डॉटा होता है।

उन्होंने बताया कि इस मुश्किल को दूर करने के लिए पंजाबी यूनिवर्सिटी पटियाला की तरफ से यूनीकोड साफ्टवेयर तैयार किया गया है, जो एक भाषा में लिखे गए शब्दों को अन्य कई भाषाओं में सीधा बदल सकता है। उन्होंने बताया कि इस साफ्टवेयर का प्रयोग करके काफी समय बचाया जा सकता है। यूनिकोड साफ्टवेयर की खास बात ये है कि यह किसी भी भाषा में लिखे मैटर को हमारी भाषा में पढ़ने लायक बना सकता है। सेमिनार में प्रो. कंबोज ने नए साफ्टवेयर प्रयोग संबंधी जानकारी भी दी। इस अवसर पर प्रो. भूपेन्द्र सिंह ने भी अपने विचार रखे। एसोसिएशन के संरक्षक प्रो. भूपेन्द्र सिंह, सचिव नवदीप असीजा व प्रफुल्ल नागपाल ने प्रो. कंबोज को सम्मानित किया
