Fazilka heritage fest begins (2009)

The four-day Fazilka Heritage Festival being celebrated by the Graduate Welfare Association Fazilka (GWAF) commenced with a colourful cultural programme at the local Pratap Bagh on Thursday night.

SDM Fazilka Charandev Singh Maan, GWAF patron Dr Bhupinder Singh inaugurated the programme. The programme began with the display of a newly-created song titled as 'Fazilka Anthem' based on rich heritage of Fazilka. The song has been composed by a local resident Santosh Chaudhry and her husband Lachhman Dost eugolising Fazilka town and its salient features.

An impressive distinguished gathering of residents of Fazilka was enthralled by Punjabi folk song Sammi, Jaggo and Bhangra dances presented by different cultural groups. Students of Dost Model School presented an impressive choreography based on the life of a great martyr Bhagat Singh. They also presented a cultural choreography titles "Kari Kite Rabba Mail Delhi Te Lahore Da" highlighting the pangs of tense of the Indo-Pak relations. The choreography won great applause from the audience. Students of Amrit Model School presented a skit titled "Bhande Kali Kara Lo" based on educational system. "Neelam Ghar" programme based on questions from the audience with gifts to those giving correct answers was also played.

To develop Fazilka as an established educational centre on the national map a seminar for career guidance for students and their guardians was also organised. Members of the GWAF offered suggestions for career guidance.

The Intelligence Quotient (IQ) level of young students keen to adopt different career was also assessed by GWAF members.

The famous clock tower of Fazilka was colourfully decorated on the occasion.

On the third night of Fazilka Heritage Festival being organised by Graduate Welfare Association, Fazilka (GWAF), the special feature of the programme was that it was dedicated to the female achievers of the Fazilka area. The distinguished women personalities belonging to this area were honoured in the programme.

Lieutenant Dr Gurpreet Kaur, a newly qualified doctor from Armed Forces Medical College Pune, who had won the President’s Medal while completing her degree in medicine this year was honoured.

Fazilka-born Dr Uma Sharma, who is working as a district public relations officer in Mohali and is a daughter of socialite late Dr Gobind Ram Sharma and Kanchan Sharma, senior vice-president, Municipal Council, Fazilka, were the two other women, who were honoured for bringing laurels to this area.

Besides, a competition to select Mrs Fazilka was also held at the festival. Eight women participated in the competition.

The Army Wives Welfare Association president Vaneeta Sinha, Shashi Ahuja and Army School principal Vandana Doda acted as judges for the Mrs Fazilka competition. They asked different questions to the participating women on different topics to assess their IQ and wit.

Ultimately, Geetu Kamra and Ritu Guleria were jointly awarded the title of Mrs Fazilka. Nisha Sharma and Sushma Rani remained first and second runners-up in the contest.

During the programme, women from 20th battalion BSF presented an impressive “Krishan Leela” programme. A young artist Rakesh displayed mimicry of noted silver screen actors Paresh Rawal, Dharminder, Dev Anand, Akshya Kumar, Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri, Gulshan Grover and others and enthralled the audience by his performance. The audience burst into peels of laughter.

महिला शक्ति को समर्पित हेरीटेज फेस्टिवल की तीसरी रात-Fazilka Heritage Festival 2009

फाजिल्का-सो क्यों मंदा आखिये, जिन जम्मे राजान, पवित्र गुरबाणी की यह पंक्ति फाजिल्का में जारी हेरीटेज फेस्टिवल में सार्थक होती नजर आई, जहां फेस्टिवल की तीसरी नाइट फाजिल्का का नाम रोशन करने वाली महिलाओं को समर्पित की गई थी। प्रताप बाग में ग्रेजुएट वेलफेयर एसोसिएशन द्वारा करवाए जा रहे फेस्टिवल के दौरान जहां फाजिल्का का नाम रोशन करने वाली महिलाओं को फाजिल्का, समाज व देश के लिए अर्जित उपलब्धियों के लिए सम्मानित किया गया, वहीं लेडी आफ फाजिल्का प्रतियोगिता में स्थानीय व वर्तमान में यहां रह रही महिलाओं ने मंच पर जलवे बिखेरे।
महिलाओं को समर्पित इस शाम की मुख्यातिथि सेना के कर्नल केके सिन्हा की पत्‍‌नी विनीता सिन्हा थीं। जबकि लेफ्टीनेंट डा. गुरप्रीत कौर, नगर कौसिल की सिनीयर उपप्रधान श्रीमती कंचन शर्मा, आर्मी स्कूल की प्रिंसिपल श्रीमती वंदना डोडा,मैडम शशि अहूजा विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित हुई। कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत गीत 'फाजिल्का शहर हमारा है' से की गई। आर्मी स्कूल की छात्राओं ने राजस्थानी डांस कालबेलिया प्रस्तुत कर उपस्थिति को राजस्थान की संस्कृति से रूबरू करवाया। बीएसएफ की महिलाओं ने भगवान कृष्ण की रास लीला और ऐसा देश है मेरा प्रस्तुत कर दर्शकों को झूमने पर मजबूर किया। उसके बाद आयोजित लेडी आफ फाजिल्का मुकाबले में संतोष चौधरी, सीमा, गीतू चगती, सुषमा देवी बीएसएफ, ऋतु गुलेरिया व मैडम निशा शर्मा ने भाग लिया। निर्णायक मंडल की भूमिका मुख्यातिथि विनीता सिन्हा, डा. गुरप्रीत कौर, प्रिंसिपल वंदना डोडा, मोहाली की डीपीआरओ उमा शर्मा व शशि आहूजा थीं। मुकाबले में फाजिल्का की विरासत संबंधी सवाल पूछे गए, जिसमें ऋतु गुलेरिया व गीतू चगती अव्वल रहीं। निशा शर्मा दूसरे तथा सुषमा रानी तीसरे स्थान पर रही। राष्ट्रपति अवार्ड विजेता तथा आर्मज फोर्स पूने में सात गोल्ड मैडल जीतने वाली फाजिल्का की शान डा. गुरप्रीत कौर ने कहा कि मुझे फाजिल्का वासी होने का मान है, लेकिन एक बात का मलाल है कि लोग पंजाब का नाम सुनते ही कहने लगते है कि तुम उस पंजाब की वासी हो जहा पर लड़कियों को पैदा होने से पहले ही खत्म कर दिया जाता है। डा. गुरप्रीत ने लोगों से अपील की है कि वह अपने माथे पर लगे इस कलंक को मिटाए और भू्रण हत्या पर पूरी तरह से रोक लगाने के लिए आगे आए। कार्यक्रम के अंत में शहीद भगत सिंह यूथ क्लब के सदस्यों द्वारा किए गए पुत वडाऊन जमीना धीया दुख वंडाऊदीया ने करके लोगों को आंसू बहाने पर मजबूर कर दिया। कार्यक्रम में सभी आए हुए मेहमानों को सम्मान चिन्ह देकर सम्मानित किया गया। कार्यक्रम का समापन राष्ट्रीय गीत से हुआ।

फेस्टिवल के आखिरी दिन नाच उठा पूरा प्रताप बाग

फाजिल्का-फाजिल्का हेरीटेज फेस्टिवल सोमवार को संपन्न हो गया। समापन मौके मुख्य मेहमान नगर परिषद अध्यक्ष अनिल सेठी, कान्फेड्रेशन आफ इंडियन इंडस्ट्री की स्टेट बॉडी के सदस्य युवा इंजीनियर संजीव नागपाल, उद्योगपति विक्रम आहूजा आदि ने अपने विचार प्रकट किए। हेरीटेज फेस्टिवल की चौथी व आखिरी रात युवा शक्ति को समर्पित की गई थी।
आयोजनकर्ता ग्रेजुएट वेलफेयर सोसायटी ने फाजिल्का के युवा तुर्को नागपाल, आहूजा, सबसे कम उम्र के परिषद अध्यक्ष अनिल सेठी को सम्मानित किया। परिषद अध्यक्ष सेठी ने फाजिल्का वासियों का आभार जताया, जिन्होंने इतनी कम उम्र में उन्हे शहर की सेवा करने का मौका दिया, वहीं उद्योगपति इंजीनियर नागपाल व आहूजा ने कहा कि चार दिन चले फेस्टिवल ने पूरे शहर को एक सूत्र में पिरोकर रख दिया है। वह भविष्य में भी आयोजनकर्ता एसोसिएशन को सहयोग दे शहर की कला, संस्कृति व युवा वर्ग को प्रोत्साहित करते रहेगे। फेस्टिवल के चारों दिन शहर का हृदय स्थल प्रताप बाग एक साझे घर के आंगन की तरह लोगों के खुशगवार चेहरों का गवाह बना रहा। जिन लोगों को प्रताप बाग में सैर करने आए हुए कई साल बीत गए थे, वह भी हेरीटेज फेस्टिवल के आकर्षण में प्रताप बाग में खिंचे चले आए। आखिरी दिन फाजिल्का व दूर दराज के इलाके के कवियों सतीश बेदाग, सचदेवा मठाड़ूू मलोट, दिलशाद अली आदि ने अपनी कविताओं के माध्यम से मौजूदा सामाजिक व राजनीतिक परिवेश पर जमकर कटाक्ष किए। सतीश बेदाग की तीसरी काव्य पुस्तक एक चुटकी चांदनी का विमोचन भी किया गया। सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम में हर कलाकार ने दर्शकों को झूमने पर मजबूर किया, खासकर नेपाल से आए हम तुम ग्रुप के सदस्यों ने अपनी बिजली सी अदाओं से हजारों दर्शकों को सांस रोककर खड़े रहने पर मजबूर किया। आखिर में पेश किए गए मलवई गिद्दे व पंजाबी भंगड़े पर तो मानो पूरा प्रताप बाग ही नाच उठा।
आयोजन को सफल बनाने में एसोसिएशन के सचिव नवदीप असीजा, संरक्षक भूपेंद्र सिंह, प्रधान एडवोकेट उमेश कुक्कड़, पंकज धमीजा, सुधीर शर्मा, लक्ष्मण दोस्त, संतोष चौधरी, मनजिंदर तनेजा, संदीप अबरोल, सर्वशिक्षा अभियान के प्रदीप छाबड़ा, पंजाब डीजे, चावला टेट हाउस आदि ने दिन रात एक किए रखा।

The much awaited annual feature "Fazilka Heritage Festival" is going to be organised from April 9-12 at the local Pratap Bagh. The annual festival, which is organised by the Graduate Welfare Association, Fazilka, (GWAF) was started in 2006. Since then, every year, the festival is offering sublime bliss not just for the music and art lovers of Fazilka but also for those citizens of Fazilka, who have now settled elsewhere, some of whom join the celebrations
The general secretary of the association, Navdeep Asija, disclosed that this year the theme of the festival is “Organic Food and Global Warming.”
According to the details provided by Asija, during these four days of festival, one night will be dedicated to display the vibrancy and cheerful nature of Fazilka people.
Live bhangra show, rock bank performances in front of Fazilka's historic clock tower daily would be an important feature of the festival.
The programmes on second night would be dedicated to the martyrs of Indian armed forces, who laid down their lives defending the country in general and Fazilka in particular in the 1965 and 1971 wars and on occasions. This night will be organised in collaboration with Indian armed forces.
Besides, a night dedicated to honour and celebrate the women of Fazilka region, who made the city proud in different fields is also planned.
A debate on global warming will also be organised.
To promote organic food, a food street on the pattern of Lahore's famous food street is going to be organised in which the noted chefs of the area will prepare the organic food of Malwa region.
Further, to keep the traditional culture of Fazilka alive, the local artists will display their products related to handicraft and traditional fine arts on both sides of the road leading to Pratap Bagh, the venue of the festival.
“The Fazilka Heritage Festival 2009, besides bringing out this spirit alive in the shape of a mega cultural festival, is going to be bigger, broader and better, wherein cultures unite, wits battle, ideas and imagination get involved,” said an enthusiastic Dr Bhupinder Singh, the patron of the GWAF.

It gives us immense pleasure to announce the dates for Fazilka’s third annual, food, art and cultural festival “FAZILKA HERITAGE FESTIVAL -2009” from 09nd to 12th April 2009. Started in the year 2006 under the aegis of the Graduates Welfare Association Fazilka®, the Fazilka Heritage Festival is an annual feature ornamenting the fair face of the city of Fazilka. Fazilka Heritage Festival is an offering sublime not just for the music and art lovers of Fazilka but also for those of the entire state of Punjab and region put together. Conceived and planned as a cultural event showcasing the various aspects of art, music and food culture of the erstwhile Fazilka with a view to injecting a fresh lease of life into them, the Festival is literally an art and cultural extravaganza. Fazilka Heritage Festival 2009 brings out this very spirit alive in the shape of a mega cultural fest where cultures unite, wits battle, ideas and imaginations evolve creating a joint and everlasting euphemism. The cultural facet of the event provides a podium for creative and imaginative display of teams, talent, ideas and thoughts. The season is all set and the mood is like never before. Fazilka Heritage Festival 2009 promises to be a much bigger, broader and better affair that will go down the memories as a sophisticated as well as enjoyable event - the basic essence of this festival. The main aim of this heritage festival is to promote Fazilka’s rich culture and heritage worldwide. This event will not only promote the vibrancy of Fazilka’s culture and Punjabiat in the border region of Punjab but also will help to establish Fazilka as a Brand city. This branding will directly or indirectly support the local handicraft, workers, sweet makers and this will generate employment opportunity through tourism in the region for many.


Teams meet from corners of the country, and we have confluence of ideas. The vision of Fazilka Heritage Festival continues to be. The targets that we set out last year, in Mehak Sarhad Di, we managed to achieve, and our goals are set higher now.


The main highlights of this mega event shall be;


1. VIBRANT FAZILKA- a night dedicates to display the vibrancy and cheerful nature of royal Fazilites.


2. HAMARE PREHRI- In collaboration with Indian Armed Forces. A night dedicate to Indian Armed forces, defenders of Fazilka.


3. WOMEN OF FAZILKA – A Night dedicate to honour and celebrate the females of Fazilka region, who made city proud, fashion show, achievers and many more....


4. YOUTH FAZILKA – A night dedicate to youth of the city.


5. ROCK YOU - Live DJ performances and live shows in front of Fazilka’s historic building Clock Tower. Live rock band performances…


THEME: ORGANIC FOOD and GLOBAL WARMING


6. FOOD ZONE: a dedicated zone will demonstrate the famous Fazilka recipe and Street Food made by known chefs of the area, just to retune your taste buds. The main idea behind Food Zone is to promote organic food. Many activists and volunteer organizations working in this field are likely to participate in the same


7. PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE FRIENDLY CITY – This will not just improve the health of participants through walking but here you can also taste the delicious food of Malwa region of Punjab around clock tower. Use of Plastic shall be banned during the festival and practice may be followed by the alert citizen after the festival.


8. GARDEN FESTIVAL: during Day time, people will be able to enjoy the beauty of our historical Partap Bagh at festival location. Entire Park will be decorated with seasonal flowers. Nature lovers would love this initiative. Many competitive events like flower decoration, rangoli, best landscape design will be followed at the venue

1. ART and CRAFT ZONE- Artist’s corner –, where on the both sides of the roads, local artist will display their products related to handicrafts and traditional fine arts.


2. BANGLA THEATRE – Nukkar Theatre event dedicated to street and stag plays by various participants groups across the country.


3. LIBAAS- A fashion event based upon the theme Fazilka revisited.


4. RENDEZVOUS WITH FAZILKA – An exhibition portraying transition of Fazilka in Post Independence era and many others fine and performing art events.


5. KALAM SE: an event dedicated to honor the renowned writer/poet of Fazilka region. Know face to face interaction with Satish”Bedag”, Baldev Singh “Azad” and Laxman “Dost”


OUR ACHIEVEMENT-OUR SOCIAL COMMITMENT


2006-2007: Theme: Cycle and Pedestrian Friendly City


This event has already added success stories in its last two year celebration in row. In year 2006, pedestrianisation in Fazilka through festival was appreciated by Transport Department, University of Vienna, Austria. During festival time, special emphasis was given to keep the city as pedestrian and cycle friendly. Experiment of “Car Free Zone” through this festival has already made us on country’s map being first Indian car free city. 2007-2008: Theme: Energy and Ecology


This year use of plastic was banned in the festival arena and special discount stalls were established by the CFL suppliers to mark city as first CFL city in the country. A cycle rally for senior citizen and with Indian Army was organized during the festival time. The aim behind all these activities was to promote best energy saving practices through in the daily lifestyle of Fazilites.


This year we are expecting nearby 1 lack visitor in this festival. Our Fazilka Heritage Festival is already recorded as world’s most eco friendly festival. In continuation to that, this year festival theme has been chosen as “Promotion of Organic Food and suppressing the effect of Global Warming”.
