FAZILKA MLA GETS NOTICE ON ENCROACHMENT

DESPITE NOTICES FROM MC, THE ENCROACHER HAD REFUSED TO CLEAR THE ENCROACHMENT, PETITIONER ALLEGED

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Jasbir Singh has issued notice to the Fazilka MLA for August 17 on a PIL seeking directions against encroachment on a parking lot for rickshaws.

Navdeep Asija, secretary (administration) of the Graduates Welfare Association, Fazilka, in his petition had stat- ed that on April 4, the associ- ation had launched a scheme for the welfare of rickshaw- pullers and ordinary citizens.
Dividing Fazilka town into five zones, in each they had creat- ed a rickshaw stand.

Arguing the case for the peti- tioners, H.C. Arora stated the stand had been provided a land- line phone so people could ask for a rickshaw at odd hours without inconvenience. Even the High Court had taken suo motu notice of news reports regarding this and had appre- ciated the initiative.

However, allegedly at local MLA Surjit Jayani's behest, one Kewal Krishan took ille- gal possession of a parking site and converted it into a shop to sell snacks. Despite notices from the municipal council, the encroacher had refused to clear the encroachment, the petitioner alleged.
